Congratulations to Sarah Arnold & Lou Lopez
on their big success Saturday night at the
*Dancing with the Stars* fundraiser!!
Sarah & Lou share 1st Prize Judges’ Choice
Award with another dance couple Julia
Frisoli & Paul Scicchitano, of Maria Fiora's
Latin and Ballroom Dance.
Sarah and Lou trained for 2 months on their
medley of Salsa, Cha-Cha & Merengue to
compete with 11 other couples from
Stamford (6 local dance studios with
Stamford VIPs as the Stars).
It was a wonderful evening benefiting
Stamford's community theater Curtain Call,
Inc.
We will have more info in the near future.

Biography:
Gem Duras received his tango training from the stars of the famous show “Forever Tango” most notably the
legendary Carlos Gavito with whom he had the opportunity to study extensively for several years, incorporating
his technique, elegance and musicality into his own dancing and teaching. Later he studied performance tango
with Francisco Forquera in Argentina.
Gem has developed a reputation as a dynamic Argentine Tango teacher and performer in milonguero, nuevo and
performance styles of tango. He has traveled to Buenos Aires numerous times to perfect his technique by
studying with Gustavo Naveira, Juan Carlos Copes, Osvaldo Zotto, Oscar Mandagaran, Chicho Frumboli, Geraldine
Rojas, Susana Miller among others.
Gem has developed a teaching method that focuses on strong technique, elegance, balance, and creativity.
The emphasis he places on the woman’s elegance and the man’s understanding of the structure creates the
fluidity and partner connection that is the essence of Argentine Tango. His versatile repertoire enables him to
teach the timeless classic salon tango and the alluring figures of nuevo tango, as well as the dynamics of

Class details:
The goal of the classes is to introduce the participants to the music and dance of tango in the authentic
Argentine tradition. Each class starts with various walking exercises as a warm-up and as a technical practice.
Then the basic step and various figures are taught. In about a eight-week period, the beginners can learn the
basic step, the “ochos” and “molinetes” which are the fundamental figures of Argentine Tango. In addition,
another dance related to tango “Milonga” is also taught, so that the participants are ready for dancing at
various tango parties, which always feature this dance as well. During the class, the music is also emphasized.
Various traditional recordings are used, and the music of various prominent tango musicians is introduced to the
participants, using our extensive tango-recording library.
