:: About Us ::
Luis Lopez -
Founder/ Director
Luis “Lou” Lopez was born and raised in Stamford, Connecticut to Puerto Rican parents.  His mother, a seamstress and restaurant
owner, is now retired in Florida, where his sister, a school teacher and mother, also lives. He is the proud father of Erica and Ashley
Lopez to whom he is especially close.  Both have promising futures:  Erica is a graduate of St. John’s University, and currently works as
a production assistant in New York City.  Ashley, a talented, licensed hair stylist, works in West Palm Beach Florida.  The family looks
forward to a wedding in August 2009, for him and his fiancée, Sybilla Mason, who are expecting their first child in the Fall 2009.

After graduating from Stamford’s JM Wright Tech High School, he joined the US Air Force as a Senior Airman.  Lou eventually found his
niche as a mortgage broker which he continues today, and for over ten years, he owns Latin Moves Dance Studio, in the heart of
Stamford.

When Lou is not working, he is playing golf.  Ten years of persistence and passion recently put him in first place in Stamford’s Memorial
Golf Tournament.

Lou has served the Stamford and surrounding communities for many years.   In May, he donated his time and teaching skills to raise
money for Curtain Call Inc., Stamford’s community theater which has a spectacular youth program.  In a ‘Dancing with the Stars’
production, Lou and Sarah Arnold, Stamford’s Public Affairs Officer for Education, won the Judges’ Choice Award.  In addition, he
consistently supports Habitat for Humanity, the Laurel House and the Stamford School of Ballet.

Lou concentrates particularly on projects benefiting children.  He teaches in after-school programs, and even helped build the
playground at Mill River Park. He has donated countless hours teaching children to dance, and choreographing performance routines
for youth dance teams in the tri-state area.  Lou works diligently to build and promote a community network that enjoys and reaps the
rewards of dance.

The art of dance builds bridges—bringing people of all ages and nationalities together to enjoy a healthy, positive activity.  Lou knows
that children benefit from dance tremendously. Dancing provides discipline, personal reward and social skills that stay with a child a
lifetime, promoting self-confidence and positive choices in life.

Lou’s largest and on-going production is the Connecticut Salsa Festival where he promotes youth and adult dance teams from
Connecticut, the tri-state area, and around the world.  Going on its 6th year, his event caters to families who come to watch their
children and friends perform.  Children are key to CT Salsa Fest, and he shows his support for their education by giving them free
entrance to all dance workshops.  The community at large has an open invitation to a Free Community Party every year at the CT Salsa
Fest where they can experience and enjoy music and dance performances free of charge.
